Greg Gonzalez

Counsel to the Assistant Attorney General National Security Division
U.S. Department of Justice
Mr. Gonzalez has spent the past ten years in various positions within the National Security Division at the United States Department of Justice, including more than five years in the Counterterrorism Section prosecuting a range of international terrorism cases, and four years in the Office of Intelligence representing the government before the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court. In 2014, he was appointed as a National Security Cyber Specialist and, in 2018, was selected to be an inaugural National Security Cyber Fellow.

For the past year, Mr. Gonzalez has served as Counsel to the Assistant Attorney General for National Security. In that role, he advises the Assistant Attorney General on operational and policy matters spanning a broad spectrum of the National Security Division’s work, including counterintelligence and counterterrorism cases and investigations, and business transactions being reviewed by the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States. As a result of his broad experience and accomplishments, Mr. Gonzalez was asked by the Assistant Attorney General to assist a committee of senior Department officials and United States Attorneys in establishing a Department-wide plan to counteract the theft of intellectual property being conducted for the economic benefit of the People’s Republic of China.

In 2016, Mr. Gonzalez was the recipient of the Attorney General’s David Margolis Award for Exceptional Service, the Department’s highest annual award, for his work on the prosecution of the Boston Marathon Bomber. He was also the recipient of the 2018 Attorney General’s Distinguished Service Award and the 2017 FBI Director’s Award for an Outstanding Cyber Investigation for leading the investigation of Ardit Ferizi, which resulted in the first prosecution and conviction in the United States of a defendant who had participated in a computer intrusion to support a foreign terrorist organization.
