Sergeant Edwin Coello has been a member of the NYPD for the past 22 years. Since 2010 he has been the lead supervisor for the NYPD Real Time Crime Center that oversee all major investigations that occur in New York. Since 2011 has led the development and implementation of the New York City Police Department Facial Identification Section/ Facial Recognition. As the commanding officer of the NYPD Facial Recognition unit he has developed, trained and led a unit which is one of the first units in the nation totally dedicated to identifying unknown individuals in criminal investigations through the use of facial recognition/ facial identification. He has also provided the framework for the system design, developed policy / procedures and deployment in investigative capacities of the use of various law enforcement technology for the NYPD. Sergeant Coello and his team, have positively identified thousands of unknown individuals in law enforcement investigations. He is also currently the NYPD subject matter expert in facial recognition.
