Dan Ryan

Dan Ryan is Senior Vice President of Security for GGP and brings more than 37 years of experience in shopping center security. He began his career as a part-time midnight shift officer and rose through the ranks to lead security strategy for one of the nation’s largest retail real estate portfolios, overseeing programs supporting as many as 220 shopping malls across the United States.

Dan has evaluated security operations nationwide, written national security contracts, and developed enterprise emergency response plans, policies, and procedures. Known as an innovator in the mall security industry, he helped commission incident reporting software that tracks security activity, analyzes crime risk, and monitors incident trends across properties.

He has championed a shift in security philosophy from “Observe and Report” to a “Trained and Capable” model led by security practitioners and supported by well-trained officers. Under his leadership, teams have received advanced training in legal issues, officer safety, defensive tactics, handcuffing, and OC spray.

Dan has also implemented industry-leading programs including Active Shooter Preparedness and Recovery, bomb and firearm detection canine teams, license plate reader technology, and NARCAN deployment.

He served 13 years in the U.S. Army (Active and Reserve) as a Military Police Officer and Protective Service Agent, achieving the rank of Staff Sergeant.
