Deputy Assistant Director (DAD) of Intelligence

In February 2022, Cassandra Butler was selected as the Deputy Assistant Director (DAD) of the Criminal Investigative Division’s (CID) Intelligence Branch. In this role, she oversees all intelligence analysis and production against criminal threats. Before joining CID, DAD Butler served as the Chief of Staff to the FBI's Executive Assistant Director for Intelligence and as Section Chief of the Intelligence Branch's Executive Staff Section.
Ms. Butler began her FBI career as an Intelligence Analyst in the Las Vegas Field Office in 2005. She worked with the Joint Terrorism Task Force before being appointed as Acting Supervisory Intelligence Analyst. In this role, Ms. Butler led the program’s transformation into a proactive, high performing intelligence unit. In 2007, she transferred to the Tampa Field Office, where she worked in the Fort Myers Resident Agency on a variety of national security and criminal threats. Through the FBI's Sabbatical Program, Ms. Butler was selected for the 2012 Counterterrorism and Public Policy Fellowship Program at Duke University.
In 2015, Ms. Butler was promoted to Supervisory Intelligence Analyst in the Phoenix Field Office, where she led a team of intelligence personnel mitigating criminal threats. In 2016, Ms. Butler assumed the leadership of the counterintelligence and cyber intelligence squad in Phoenix. In 2017, she was promoted to the position of Assistant Inspector – Team Leader in the Inspection Division, where she conducted program reviews and field office inspections. In 2018, Ms. Butler was promoted to the Senior Supervisory Intelligence Analyst position in the FBI Miami Field Office with program responsibility for counterterrorism, weapons of mass destruction, and criminal threats, as well as the intelligence program’s crisis response. In November 2020, Ms. Butler was designated as Miami’s Intelligence Program Manager (IPM) with counterintelligence, cyber, and Foreign Language Program responsibilities.
